We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Architect – Digital Commerce to own and evolve Pentland’s digital commerce architecture across B2B, D2C, and Martech ecosystems.
This role is pivotal in shaping our Shopify-led commerce landscape, guiding the business on technical decision-making, managing and prioritising the digital backlog, and leading delivery in a multi-vendor environment. You will act as a trusted technical authority, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to our broader digital strategy.
As part of the Digital Solutions leadership community, you will work closely with business stakeholders, third-party integrators, and internal technology teams to deliver robust, future-ready commerce capabilities.
How you'll drive success:
Digital Commerce Architecture Ownership
Lead architectural design and decision-making across Shopify and its supporting application ecosystem.
Act as the custodian of the Shopify app estate, governing app selection, onboarding, and lifecycle management.
Define and uphold architectural principles aligned to MACH, headless, microservices, and composable commerce patterns.
Ensure digital commerce solutions align with enterprise standards, scalability, and long-term strategy.
Backlog & Business Engagement
Guide the business in shaping, managing, and prioritising the digital commerce backlog in line with commercial priorities.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable business decisions.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across digital, marketing, and technology.
Delivery & Vendor Management
Lead technical delivery in a multi-vendor and systems integrator environment.
Collaborate closely with third-party partners to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery.
Oversee and validate integrations between Shopify and wider digital platforms (e.g. Martech, SAP, Patchworks, CRM, PIM, DAM).
Define and implement support and operating models for delivered solutions.
Platform Operations & Capability Building
Define internal capability requirements and lead recruitment or upskilling to support and sustain the commerce platform.
Help manage and optimise Pentland’s broader digital estate across B2B, D2C, and Martech solutions.
Monitor platform performance, resolve architectural issues, and drive continuous improvement.
Security, Risk & Governance
Ensure compliance with data protection and security standards (e.g. GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001).
Identify and mitigate technical, integration, and data-related risks across all digital commerce solutions.
Conduct architectural reviews to ensure robustness, resilience, and compliance.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Proactively identify opportunities to optimise performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Stay current with Shopify capabilities, emerging commerce trends, and digital architecture best practices.
Recommend innovative approaches to maintain competitive advantage.
Metrics & Outcomes
Define and track architectural success metrics (e.g. scalability, stability, security, business outcomes).
Use data-driven insights to inform platform and architectural decisions.
Collaboration & Leadership
Work cross-functionally with UX/UI, marketing, analytics, and data teams to deliver cohesive digital experiences.
Mentor engineers and technical team members, promoting architectural best practices and knowledge sharing.
