As Assistant Store Manager, you are the engine of the shop floor—connecting strategy to execution.
You’ll support the Store Manager in delivering strong commercial results while ensuring the team delivers an exceptional, knowledgeable, and authentic brand experience. You’ll lead by example, stepping up to take ownership when needed and helping to build a high-performing, engaged team from day one.
What you’ll be doing:
Team Leadership & Coaching
Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of the store team
Lead shifts and act as manager-on-duty when required
Coach team members to deliver strong service and product knowledge
Commercial Delivery
Drive performance against KPIs including sales, conversion, and ATV
Use daily and weekly trading data to identify opportunities
Support execution of visual merchandising and product launches
Consumer Experience
Deliver a hands-on, front-of-house leadership presence
Ensure every customer interaction reflects Berghaus expertise and values
Help the team confidently communicate technical product features
Operations & Standards
Support smooth day-to-day store operations (stock, processes, compliance)
Maintain high standards across the shop floor and back-of-house
Ensure the store is always customer-ready and brand-aligned
Community & Brand Activation
Support local initiatives, events, and partnerships
Help position the store as part of the Manchester outdoor community
What you’ll bring:
Retail experience in a supervisory or senior sales role
Experience supporting team leadership and delivering results on the shop floor
Passion for the outdoors, or a strong interest in performance-led products
Proactive, hands-on, and solutions-focused
Comfortable taking ownership and stepping into leadership when needed
Strong communication and people skills
Commercial awareness with a drive to hit targets
Ability to coach others and lead by example

Talent Team Intro Call - A 30-minute video call with our Talent Team to get to know each other, talk through the role and your experience, and answer any questions you have.
Experience Interview - A more in-depth interview (usually online) with the hiring manager to explore your skills, experience and approach, and how these align with the role, our principles, and our ways of working.
Final Interview - A final in-person interview at our office, focused on deeper discussion and practical application, giving you the chance to meet more of the team and see Pentland Brands in action.
