Designer - Women's Outdoor Apparel (Berghaus)
We’re Pentland Brands: a global family business behind some of the world’s most iconic active and lifestyle brands. We bring integrity, energy and ambition to our work, setting high standards and striving to deliver great outcomes without ego.
Design technical outdoor apparel built for movement, weather and real-world performance.

At Berghaus, product has to do more than look good. It has to work when conditions change, terrain gets tougher and every detail starts to matter.
Women's apparel within Berghaus represents a significant opportunity for growth within the brand. As part of our evolving product strategy, we are investing in creating a more relevant, contemporary, and distinctive women's offer. This role will play an important part in shaping that future, helping us build collections that resonate with today's outdoor consumer through a balance of performance, style, versatility, and authenticity – with focus across UK, US, DE and China with building DTC.
We are looking for a creative and commercially minded designer with a passion for women's outdoor product. You will bring a strong sense of style, a good understanding of the modern outdoor consumer, and the ability to create compelling product concepts that balance fashion relevance with functional performance. This role is ideal for someone looking to deepen their technical expertise while helping shape the future of women's outdoor apparel.
What you’ll be doing:
Design innovative women's outdoor apparel collections that balance technical performance, comfort, durability, and contemporary style while reflecting the Berghaus brand identity.
Research consumer insights, market trends, competitor activity, and emerging materials to identify opportunities for product innovation and commercial growth.
Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, colour palettes, fabric selections, technical sketches, and detailed design specifications from initial brief through to final product.
Collaborate closely with Product Development, Technical, Merchandising, and Buying teams to ensure designs meet performance standards, cost targets, quality expectations, and critical path timelines.
Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to review prototypes, fittings, and samples, incorporating feedback to optimise fit, functionality, and production readiness.
Ensure all designs deliver an exceptional women's fit and user experience, incorporating athlete, consumer, and wear-test feedback to continuously improve product performance.
Present design concepts and seasonal ranges to internal stakeholders, communicating the creative vision while ensuring alignment with brand strategy, commercial objectives, and sustainability commitments.
What you’ll bring:
2–5 years' experience designing apparel, ideally within outdoor, active, sportswear, or lifestyle categories.
Passion for women's apparel and a strong understanding of how performance, comfort, and style come together in product design.
Good understanding of garment construction and apparel development processes, with an eagerness to build technical knowledge.
Familiarity with performance materials and fabric technologies, including stretch, weather-resistant, breathable, and insulated fabrics.
Strong eye for silhouette, fit, proportion, colour, and material selection.
Ability to create outfit concepts and seasonal capsule collections that feel relevant, desirable, and aligned with consumer needs.
Awareness of emerging trends across outdoor, active, and contemporary women's fashion markets.
Strong CAD, illustration, and presentation skills with attention to detail.
Collaborative approach and willingness to work closely with Product Management, Development, and Marketing teams.
Interest in outdoor activities such as hiking, trail running, camping, climbing, or other adventure pursuits.
Experience creating apparel graphics, prints, or visual storytelling assets would be a plus.
Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn from technical and commercial teams while continuing to develop as a designer.
